A temple for Saas Bahu in Gwalior

In the city of Gwalior, inside the fort complex, lies a stunning temple called the Saas Bahu temple.
Built in the 10th century by the Kachapaghata rulers, this temple has some of the finest and most intricate carvings.
Most of the idols have been defaced during attacks by the Muslim invaders but the complex has been maintained excellently by ASI.
Originally this temple was known as the Sahastrabahu temple, meaning a thousand arms
The construction of the temples was started by King Ratnapal and completed by King Mahipal in 1093 AD.
There are two temples, one bigger and the other smaller, colloquially known as Saas and Bahu

The carvings inside are intricate and the architecture is absolutely mind blowing.
Even the smaller temple has a central hall and spectacular carvings on the ceiling.
From here one can see the entire Gwalior city from a vantage point.
