Exploring Bhuj: Prag Mahal

Kutch was a princely state till 1947, when India got independence.

Bhuj, the capital of Kutch was it’s administrative and commercial headquarter.

Prag Mahal is one of the most unique palace buildings in Bhuj.

It is the first building in India to adopt the Neo- Gothic style.

It was the inspiration behind the Neo Gothic style buildings built in Mumbai.

The interiors are ornately decorated in Italian style with a Grand Darbar Hall.

Prag Mahal was built by the British architect, Henry Saint Clair Wikins.

The building is built in red sandstone and white marble.

It is one of the best examples of 19th century colonial architecture in India.

The most significant element of Prag Mahal is the 150 feet high bing bang clock.
