What to Eat in Varanasi
By Divyakshi Gupta
When in Varanasi, how can one not taste the famous Paan Banaras Wala? Walk into any street and treat yourself to a local Paan to remember!
Varanasi is a Chaat Paradise: From Deena Chaat Bhandar to Kashi Chaat Bhandar. From Aloo Tikki to Papdi Chaat to the local Tamatar Ki chaat made from Tomatoes.
Another local favourite is a dish called Malaiyo. This is made up of cream that is whipped endlessly and is available only in the morning.
The Chowk area is famous for Lassis. Grab a Lassi, garnished with Elaichi at Vishwanath Galli
Spiced with hing (asafoetida), Choti kachoris near Jaipuria are a hit with the locals.
Kulhad Wali Chai is a must have!. It is ubiquitous and comes with stories from the Chaiwallah!!
And if you have a sweet tooth, you will be spoilt for choice, from Malai Peda to Gulab Jamun.
Sample mouth fresheners and Mukhwaas at the Chowk area and carry them back as souvenirs.
Do not miss the umpteen varieties of Local Murabas. My favourite was the Baans ka Muraba (Bamboo Muraba).
